Lenox Plumbing just spent time in Farmington Hills replacing galvanized pipes. If your house is more than 30 years old, chances are it could have galvanized pipe.  Galvanized piping was used because it was thought that it would never rust.  Time has proven this wrong. After years of use, galvanized pipe can rust from the inside out.  If you notice a blast of red water coming out of your pipes, you’ve got proof that your pipes have rusted.  If your water pressure is slowing down or you have hard water, chances are you’ve got rust in the lines.  There are many chemical products on the market claiming they can get rid of this rust build up, but they usually just eat away at the pipe causing even more damage.  The only real way to fix this problem is to have your galvanized pipes replaced.

There are many different options available when thinking about replacing galvanized pipe.  Copper has always been a preferred material but the price of copper has significantly risen in the past few years.  A cheaper and equally effective option would be to replace galvanized pipe with plastic.  There are many different plastic options that will not cause rust to build up in your line.

If you’re wondering if your pipes should be replaced or would like an estimate to repipe your house, give us a call and we’ll come out to give you a free estimate.  734.787.6185
